“She doesn’t even Bro here!” Bro, the App – A Review

BroApp

From the apps creator, Scott Kutler:

“My goal for BRO was for it to be a social network where men can find other men to make meaningful connections beyond just hooking up or random sex. This can mean friendship, dating, chat, or even a long-term relationship. It may seem to cater more towards men that identify as bi or homosexual, but it’s really for any guys that want to find another guy to hang out.”

I was asked to write a review for a new app called ‘Bro’. It’s a gay dating app that’s a cross between Tinder and Grindr, but for Bros. I’m not a big fan of gay dating apps in general, but I’ve been playing around with it for about a week now and have starting chatting with a couple of cute guys on it. If you’re more inclined to meeting someone to actually have a real date with, hang out, make friends, I’d say this app would be better suited for you than a Grindr or a Scruff. Like Tinder there isn’t really anything sexualized in the interface. No ‘private photos’, no porn ads, it’s a lot cleaner/brighter and more lighthearted than some of it’s competitors.

Like Tinder you can view your ‘Daily Bros’ and you can swipe right or left on a guy that you like or dislike. The app also pulls in some aspects from other dating sites like OK Cupid, where when you first sign up it will ask you a couple of random questions, to which your answers will be displayed on your profile. Questions like “What’s your favorite quote?”, “Name 6 things you can’t live without.”,  “What’s your biggest aspiration in life?” etc. You can upload multiple pictures of yourself to the app, which SHOULD be a basic function for any gay dating app at this point *coughGrindrcough* you can also link external sites like your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn (do people still use that one?) so you can cyber stalk a potential match even further. At least that’s what I do.

When signing up you are asked to chose a ‘Bro Type’. Some of the Types include ‘Jock Bro’, ‘Brogrammer’, ‘G.I. Bro’, ‘Preppy Bro’ and so on. There wasn’t really a category that I saw myself fitting into, so I just chose ‘Casual Bro’ as that one seemed the default choice. It’d be nice to see an Alternative or Geek/Nerd bro on there. Those are a thing, right? You can also ‘FistBump!’ someone kind of like a ‘Woof!’ in Scruff. All in all it’s a cute app. A good alternative to some of the more popular apps out there, especially if you are looking for something that isn’t so sexually charged.

Check it out! You can download the app HERE from the iTunes store. OR for you Droid users there is a BETA download you can get HERE!
