Castro Street Fair Guide

This Sunday will mark the gayest neighborhood in the world’s (well, at least it used to be) 41st annual Castro Street Fair celebration! The construction crews that have been working on the Castro Street’s sidewalk widening and beautification project have been hard at work getting everything in place and cleaned up before the busy Sunday street fair, which expects a crowd of around 50,000. The fair brings together hundreds of local vendors, musicians, drag queens, performers, non profits and other locals in one of the cities most eclectic outdoor festivals.

Heading up the CSF’s main stage this year, which will be co hosted between Miss Honey Mahogany and her good friend Vivvyanne Forevermore will be a wide range of entertainment to keep you moving well into the evening. My drag mother Cookie Dough and her Monster Show gang will be performing two sets on the Main Stage again this year, with husband DJ MC2 DJing in between acts. Superstar and super cutie pie Aiden James will be appearing on the main stage as well, with other acts such as Brooklyn based rapper Big Dipper and Tony Award winning musical Avenue Q. For a full line up and set times check out Castro Street Fairs entertainment page here: http://www.castrostreetfair.org/entertainment/main-stage/

In addition to the main stage will be the Legends Stage, hosting some veteran San Francisco area DJs and the Dance Alley behind Magnet on 18th between Collingwood and Castro streets AND the Castro Alley which is in the parking lot behind the Castro Theatre. There will be a varying line up of DJs at both of those spaces as well, which can also be found on the CSF’s entertainment page.

Many of the bars in the Castro area will be holding special events. Drag shows, tons of gogo dancers and DJs will be working various parties. The largest of which will take place at Beaux for Big Top. Co hosted by myself, Adam Zollar and Willam of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Big Top will take place directly after the street fair ends at 6PM with performances and a meet and greet with Willam later in the evening.

As usual there will be a ton of booths set up along Castro and 18th streets that will include food, booze, clothing, crafts, artwork, charities, local organizations and much, much more. So if you are out an about in the area this weekend make sure you stop by! This is a free event, but if you can make a donation at one of the gates to help keep this fair going. The fair takes place on Castro street between market and 19th and 18th street between Noe and Collingwood and in and around the intersection of Market and Castro, so keep in mind MUNI will be affected on those routes. It’s forecast to be a bit cooler on Sunday than it has been this week, but it will still be plenty nice out. The fair runs from 11AM until 6PM. Have a fun and safe weekend kiddies!
